The sending of e-invoices has been mandatory in Germany since 1 January 2025. This means that companies must use structured electronic invoices for domestic German business transactions (‘B2B’).
Although this obligation does not yet apply to Austrian companies, the pressure is already growing for them too, as the EU ViDA Directive (VAT in the Digital Age) - planned from 2028 - provides for digital reporting and structured, electronic invoicing within the EU.
With digital invoices, you avoid postage, printing costs and storage space for analogue paper invoices, thereby reducing your costs.
Thanks to digital transmission, your invoice reaches the customer at the touch of a button. This saves you a lot of time.
Increase your liquidity with digital invoices. Because invoices that reach the recipient faster can also be paid faster.
You can also benefit from sending electronic invoices in your company. The WinLine eBILLING module provides you with various standard formats so that you can process electronic invoices directly in WinLine.
Receive, send, process and archive your invoices digitally in WinLine. Importing invoice data from your suppliers into WinLine Financial Accounting is also easy with our ebInterface. A PDF or XML file, e.g. for ebInterface, can be created and sent automatically.
You can also send your invoices digitally from WinLine in Germany. The XML output is carried out according to the common standards ‘XRechnung’ or ‘ZUGFeRD (Factur-X)’ in accordance with the European standard EN16391 (COMFORT).
The ‘ZUGFeRD’ format is used for cross-industry electronic invoice data exchange (‘B2B’). Since 27 November 2020, however, sending invoices via ‘XRechnung’ has been mandatory for all companies that conduct business with public authorities or institutions in Germany (‘B2G’). This applies to invoices from € 1,000.
Since 1 January 2025, the sending of e-invoices in domestic business transactions (‘B2B’) has been mandatory. The data format is based on the existing ‘ZUGFeRD (Factur-X)’ format in accordance with the European standard DIN-EN16931.
The following are exempt from this obligation:
Important to know: Paper invoices, PDF files, Word documents, image files and the like do not fulfil the legal requirements for an e-invoice!
